Summary:
The Health Services Paraeducator Trainer trains and supports the health room paraeducators within the district. Providing data entry and reports to support the operation and function of the department.
Responsibilities:
- Train and support all Health Room paraeducators to fulfil their duties to supply and promote health care according to BVSD board policies, Health Services protocol and State guidelines. This is done through individual onsite training and consultation and regular electronic communication. Develop and train health room paraeducators on new regulations, laws and protocols governing health services in schools. Provide ongoing training and support to health room paraeducators with the goal of consistency of practice.
- Assist the school nurse consultants and Director of Health Services to monitor health room staff for consistency of practice in their duties and assist with data collection and compilation of district, state and national health room data.
- In collaboration with ECE and Health Services staff, develop tools to ensure compliance with Child Care Licensing and State health requirements, especially in regards to immunization and preventative screening requirements.
- Work with IT and Health Services to maintain current electronic student records and other Google-based programs utilized by schools and Health Services to record student data. Train health room paraeducators on electronic student record updates and/or changes that affect the department.
- Maintain records for required health and safety equipment, training, and staff competencies (e.g., First Aid, CPR, AED, medication delegation), and assist with First Aid/CPR/AED training for school staff as needed.
- Provide clerical assistance to the Health Services Administrative Assistant and Director of Health Services as requested and time permits.
- Plan and implement in collaboration with the School Nurse Consultants, Health Services Coordinator, and Professional Learning to provide professional learning for health room paraeducators. Routine communications with health room paraeducators to assure consistent implementation of practice.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of one year experience in a health-related job.
- First Aid & CPR from a nationally recognized source
- American Red Cross CPR Instructor certification or willing to obtain within 60 days of employment.
- BVSD Medication training and delegation, Universal Precaution training; must acquire within 2 months.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Communicate (read, write and speak) in English.
- Completed and submitted BVSD online application.
Preferred:
- Associates degree or equivalent college course work.
- Minimum of three years experience in school health room work.
- Experience developing and implementing training to adult learners in individual and group settings.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
Salary Information:
Salary Placement varies according to experience and education.
*Pay range listed above is for employees newly hired to BVSD or current BVSD employees that are new to the employee group (existing employees currently in this unit please refer to the pay range on the appropriate salary schedule).
