Position Title: TOSA-Social Studies

Position Start Date: August 1, 2024

Position Type: Teachers-Licensed

FTE: 0.50 - 20 hours per week - Limited Term through 6/3/2025

Summary:

The TOSA of Social Studies provides support to the STEAM Director and all schools in the implementation of the BVSD instructional infrastructure. This includes support for systems level visioning, action planning and communication related to Social Studies standards, instruction, and assessment in elementary, middle, and high schools. In addition to serving as part of the STEAM Team, the TOSA of Social Studies will work alongside all departments to ensure high quality professional learning, guide materials implementation, support data driven instruction, and provide additional specified supports. The TOSA of Social Studies will provide leadership to all schools across BVSD and represent BVSD as needed at the local and state levels in the area of Social Studies. 

Responsibilities:

  • Content Leadership: Lead activities to develop a Social Studies vision and delivery of structures and outcomes aligned to BVSD’s Strategic Plan. Leadership includes but is not limited to standards alignment, scope and sequence, development of curricular resources and assessments, instructional material selection, universal instructional practices, and selection of intervention resources and tools. 
  • School Support: Assist schools in the application of related district initiatives in K-12 Social Studies including but not limited to support for data-driven instruction, PD development and facilitation, lesson planning and design aligned to NGSS standards, three dimensional instructional strategies through coaching and consultation.
  • Systems Alignment Leadership: Participate in district leadership training as identified by the School Leadership, Opportunity and Access, Professional Learning, and Academic Services. Leadership may include: attending meetings, professional development sessions, data analysis and development, and other activities which support leadership skills, and supporting Strategic Plan initiatives. 
  • Other Duties As Assigned & Partnerships: Includes but not limited to the National History Day, District & State Assessment committees, and Social Studies Committees in Colorado. This may also include internal and external partnership work to align BVSD Social Studies vision to partnership work, share partner resources to BVSD educators, co-facilitate professional learning experiences, and other supports.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Currently hold a Colorado teaching license or have licensure application in process with appropriate endorsement in: Social Studies (must upload license or in process documentation to application).
  • Minimum of three years experience teaching Social Studies and/or a minimum of three years of educational leadership experience, e.g., school based, central office, educational BOCES, etc.
  • Completed and submitted BVSD on-line application.

Preferred:

  • Demonstrates strong knowledge of interactive, language rich, differentiated instructional practices to support all students.
  • Values student diversity, inclusivity, and supporting the unique learning needs of each individual student.
  • Experience with data-driven instructional practices.
  • Experience designing and facilitating professional development for adult learners.

Salary Placement varies according to experience and education.
