Summary:

This is a part-time hourly position that provides age appropriate Colorado Department of Education required vision screenings for children and teens in the Boulder Valley School District. Results of screening are documented and communicated to the Lead Technician for interpretation and referral as necessary.

Responsibilities:

  • Organizes and sets up the screening area on the screening day by arranging the environment to elicit optimal screening effectiveness.
  • Collaborates with Vision team to oversee the screening process.
  • Accurately and legibly records screening results.
  • Communicates pertinent information to Lead Tech and School Nurse Consultant as needed.
  • Collects data from screening, makes necessary referrals, and provides appropriate paperwork to health room paraeducators for distribution, recording and filing.
  • May help health room para with follow-up on students on referred students.
  • Makes recommendations and suggestions regarding procedures and possible improvements to the screening process.
  • Safeguards confidentiality of information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: 

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Personal vehicle to drive to different locations within BVSD
  • Completed and submitted BVSD online application
  • Communicate (read, write, and speak) in English

Preferred:

  • Experience in vision screening
  • Knowledge of distance and near vision charts, depth perception charts, occluders, digital screening camera
  • Ability to work effectively with children and other staff
  • Computer experience (Microsoft Office, Google, etc.)

Salary Information: 

Salary Placement varies according to experience and education.

*Pay range listed above is for employees newly hired to BVSD or current BVSD employees that are new to the employee group (existing employees currently in this unit please refer to the pay range on the appropriate salary schedule).
