Horizons K-8 School, located in south Boulder, has a rich history of academic excellence. Position Description:

This is a Middle School Special Education Teacher position (1.0 FTE) for Horizons K-8 with a focus on students in grades 6th through 8th. We strive for full inclusion, therefore this person will collaborate closely with classroom teachers to modify curriculum and/or provide for student accommodations, along with providing direct services outside of the classroom as needed. 

Responsibilities:

  •  Differentiate instruction for students according to student needs, selecting and implementing appropriate educational materials and strategies within the classroom 
  • Use state standards and Horizons K-8 curriculum to plan, guide and deliver instruction Demonstrate in practice knowledge of federal and state special education laws and regulations and commitment to learning and implementing BVSD and Horizons K-8 procedures for the implementation of compliant special education services for students.
  • Regularly monitor student learning progress to evaluate the effectiveness of the educational approaches being used and make modifications as required
  •  Communicate goals, strategies, and results of educational programs implemented with teachers, parents and students Attend and facilitate student problem-solving team meetings (MTSS), and IEP meetings 
  • Demonstrate clear, accurate, professional and respectful communication with parents, students, educational staff and community members Demonstrate a strong sense of efficacy; believe in our ability to make a difference in the lives of all children and families 
  • Demonstrate ability to establish working rapport with students with a wide range of ability levels and needs and help others to do so as well 
  • Effectively manage the learning environment of a daily Academic Lab class in support of students who need additional, ongoing support Understand, appreciate, and be responsive to student diversity Work with families in a partnership role 
  • Participate in other school-based activities and responsibilities as required of teacher leaders Attend weekly faculty meetings and team meetings

Qualifications: 

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution
  • Current Colorado teaching license with special education endorsement (or CDE licensure application in process) 
  • Highly qualified knowledge of special education and special education law 
  • Excellent collaboration, interpersonal, and communication skills 

Preferred:

  • Two or more years of special education teaching experience at the middle school level 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills -Trauma informed practices - Willingness to communicate frequently with families regarding student progress 
  • Experience integrating multicultural issues and diverse perspectives in instruction 
  • Knowledge of and deep belief in inclusion in the general education classroom for all students, including those on an IEP, with a 504 and/or learning English 
  • Dedication to high standards of excellence and the success of all students; ability to build relationships and personalize instruction for students so that all are challenged to learn 
  • Deep knowledge of instructional practices that will lead to high levels of student growth supported by authentic data and assessment, particularly for those with special needs 
  • Technologically literate, Google applications savvy and motivated to use technology to enhance learning 

Salary Information: 


BVSD engages in a salary placement process vs. a salary negotiation process. This information is provided in compliance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act and is the company's good faith and reasonable estimate of the compensation range and benefits offered for this position. The compensation offered to the successful applicant may vary based on factors including experience and education. All salaries are set by Human Resources based on a review of qualifications compared to the requirements on the job description; therefore listing all related education and experience on your application is recommended.
