Summary:
Performs routine security checks of all schools and buildings in the district. Responds to emergencies and takes necessary steps to address all emergencies. At times will be required to respond to matters pertaining to vandalism, theft, arson, personnel issues, etc. Works with appropriate law enforcement agencies and other first responders when necessary. Works with Maintenance to diagnose and address maintenance issues in and around BVSD properties. Works in the Security Operations Center (24x7x365 Security Dispatch Center) as a Dispatcher. Works in the schools to support Campus Safety Monitors who are in need of assistance. Supports the School Safety Advocates daily. Flies the Drone for school safety, security, traffic follows and other related issues at all school sites.
Responsibilities:
- Inspect buildings to make sure they are secured. This includes checking exterior and interior doors and windows, looking for signs and indications of fire, HVAC issues, vandalism, theft, safety hazards, etc. Work with the community to resolve issues with district properties. Patrol school premises in a vehicle and on foot to ensure compliance to all rules and policies that pertain to safety and security.
- Locks and unlocks entries and exits as required for authorized usage and enforces curfew of buildings. May check individual identification to ensure authorized usage of buildings and facilities as stated by policy. Interacts with both friendly and potentially aggressive community members, staff members, or students.
- Prepares, disseminates and maintains accurate reports on matters investigated. Completes detailed documentation and completes reports using Google Suite.
- Fully trained and knowledgeable about the Security Dispatcher duties. Perform the full job responsibilities of the Security Dispatcher on a regular basis.
- Assist and advise other departments including HR, Maintenance and all school administrations with issues related to safety and security such as vandalism, theft, BVSD Security policies and common practices, escorting of visitors, staff, and students off property, identifies drug and alcohol violations and advises on appropriate enforcement action in accordance with BVSD policies, procedures and best practices.
- Crisis response to all school locations for de-escalation of conflict and situations between students, staff, and visitors that negatively impact student and school safety.
- Coordinates all vehicle maintenance on security fleet vehicles to include scheduling and relaying department vehicles for oil changes, tire rotations and any other maintenance needs. Maintains a clean and operable vehicle that is ready to be deployed at any time to include restocking needed equipment to maintain 24 hour readiness.
- Provides support to all Campus Safety Monitors including school coverage, situational guidance, and training.
- Investigate criminal acts that are committed against the school district and liaise with Law Enforcement when appropriate. This includes crime recognition, asset protection, and damage mitigation.
- Work afterhours events upon request to include sporting events, graduations, ect. This includes liaising between Law Enforcement and school administrations, traffic control, parking enforcement and crowd control.
- Able to work days, nights and weekends with a call back status at all times regardless of weather conditions, holidays and school closures.
- Knowledge of searches and seizures in accordance with laws, district policies and common practices for searches involving personal property and district property. Must have general knowledge of laws and how to confiscate property of a student or staff member for evidence or other reasons as defined by the law and district policy.
- Knowledge of drugs with the ability to identify, recognize and properly handle them to assist with collection, confiscation and disposition of the substance and associated paraphernalia. Must be able to advise involved parties and staff on proper procedures to ensure safe handling of all substances and materials.
- Recognize an individual who is intoxicated or under the influence of unknown substances and render aid as needed.
- Assist, coordinate and train on all emergency drills on all BVSD properties. Must be able to provide assistance and answer questions regarding all emergency drills. This includes Lock Down, Secure, Shelter in Place, Evacuation, Fire and Hold drills.
- Respond to traumatic incidents calmly and assist when requested with child crisis response for possible traumas on scene, reunification assistance and traffic control.
- Respond to maintenance issues on BVSD properties. This includes identifying and diagnosing building issues to dispatch the proper maintenance personnel to address the issue, accurately describing a problem to maintenance personnel who are not on scene and being able to be verbally walked through a fix or diagnostic from maintenance personnel who are not on site.
- Perform basic radio repairs on BVSD radio equipment. This includes the ability to accurately diagnose radio issues, repair using basic tools or route the equipment to the correct person for repair or replacement.
- The ability to operate a drone if issued. This includes maintaining the drone and the ability to follow FAA rules and regulations.
- Operate and understand fire panels, fire maps and accurately diagnose fire alarm issues and advise appropriate actions.
- Communicate and give presentations to staff and students about BVSD security related issues and proper security procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of one year security experience.
- Requires a valid Colorado driver's license
- Submit a current Motor Vehicle Record (MVR). Must be insurable and maintain insurability per Colorado School Districts Self Insurance Pool (CSDSIP) standards (MVR Insurability Standards); required at entry
- Ability to lift 50 pounds on a regular basis and 100 pounds occasionally with assistance.
- Ability to think and act quickly, calmly, and appropriately in emergencies.
- Ability to perform physical labor to include constant reaching, bending, and climbing
Preferred:
- CPI Certification
- Basic understanding of Colorado Law and Childrens code
- FAA Remote Pilot License (If requested. Paid for by BVSD)
- Knowledge of Restorative Justice Practices
Salary Information:
Salary Placement varies according to experience and education.

BVSD engages in a salary placement process vs. a salary negotiation process.
