Summary:
Responsible for supporting the elementary school by performing several clerical functions including maintaining student files, records, attendance and databases; answering phones and directing visitors, assisting students in health room, answering questions and fulfilling requests and preparing written communication.
Responsibilities:
- Communicate with staff, parents, students and district including: coordinating translations, layouts and implementation of flyers & newsletters (both staff and community) , parent or teacher handbooks, registration packets, maintain staff and parent email lists, sending and receiving email notifications. Provide oral & written interpretation for parents, students, district personnel and community members as needed.* (Not applicable to all schools)
- Support communication throughout the school community, including maintaining the website, signage, school calendars, school tours, posting and removing school banners, flyers and announcements, community newspaper liaisons, etc.
- Regulate school’s Master calendar, school use contracts, events including set-up, breakdown, coordination, and building use.
- Building Security, monitor main entrance, greet authorized personnel and/or visitors following district policies and procedures. Handle building maintenance and security; ensure appropriate check-in procedures are followed according to district policies and procedures. Assist with coordination of volunteer background checks, assigning security codes and fobs, distributing keys, crisis plans, regulating vermin and pests, grounds maintenance coordination (heat, cooling and air conditioning).
- Assist with ordering and distribution of school and staff material needs, including adoption materials, custodial and clerical supplies, checking in received orders, pro card use, etc.
- Assist and implement other district programs that may be located within the school building. Answer phones, direct mail and communication, copy, etc.
- Handle before and after school care for students left unattended by parents, discipline write ups and follow ups throughout the day when the principal or other designee is unavailable.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of one year experience in secretarial or clerical work.
- Communicate (read, write, and speak) in English.
- Completed and submitted BVSD online application.
Preferred:
- Bilingual English/Spanish
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions.
- Ability to diffuse and manage volatile and stressful situations.
- Ability to interact and work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds.
Salary Information:
Salary Placement varies according to experience and education.
*Pay range listed above is for employees newly hired to BVSD or current BVSD employees that are new to the employee group (existing employees currently in this unit please refer to the pay range on the appropriate salary schedule).
