Summary:

The Payroll Assistant supports the Payroll team by performing a variety of administrative and clerical tasks to ensure timely and accurate payroll processes. This position focuses on timesheet verification, basic data entry, customer service, and general payroll support. The Payroll Assistant will be the first point of contact for payroll-related inquiries, helping streamline work for the Payroll team.

Responsibilities: 

  • Review event timesheets and substitute teacher work detail for accuracy before upload into the payroll system. Support Payroll Specialist in monitoring and paying extra duty contract pay. Collaborate with Human Resources to ensure accuracy and resolve issues.
  • Collaborate with the Payroll Manager to create and deliver payroll presentations and materials for new employee orientation, covering payroll processes, leave time, payment schedules, and time reporting tools.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to create and maintain all payroll-related materials, presentations, and documentation.
  • Review, prioritize, and respond to payroll-related service tickets. Serve as the first point of contact for payroll customer service inquiries, respond to employees regarding payroll issues, policies, and procedures with discretion and clear communication. Follow procedures, make informed decisions, and escalate issues to the appropriate staff as needed.
  • Compile basic communication to employees regarding payroll updates and reminders.
  • Assist with vendor payments, including garnishments; handle physical checks; and prepare routine documentation.
  • Perform general office duties: filing, scanning, and maintaining payroll records. Assist payroll manager with special projects and other duties as assigned. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: 

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of three years experience in general office occupations or equivalent education and computer experience.
  • Completed and submitted BVSD online application.
  • Communicate (read, write, and speak) in English.

Preferred:

  • Minimum of 1-2 years of clerical, administrative support experience; payroll, accounting, or HR experience.   

Salary Information: 

Salary Placement varies according to experience and education.

*Pay range listed above is for employees newly hired to BVSD or current BVSD employees that are new to the employee group (existing employees currently in this unit please refer to the pay range on the appropriate salary schedule).
