Summary:

The resource nurse is responsible for identifying and assessing health concerns and addressing any health-related barriers that may impact students with health conditions from participating in extracurricular activities, both during and outside regular school hours. The nurse determines the care needed for students in extracurricular or enrichment settings, ensuring compliance with IDEA, FAPE, and relevant regulations from the Board of Nursing, DORA, CDE, and CDPHE. Additionally, the nurse collaborates with school nurse consultants, coaches, activity sponsors, and staff from camps, childcare, and enrichment programs to ensure proper training and delegation of necessary health services, including physical and mental health support.

Responsibilities:

  •  Ensure quality of school health services and make health services accessible to students and families as Resource Float School Nurse Consultant, by aligning with national, and state school nursing standards, collecting and submitting data as requested and reevaluating as needed.
  • Ensure mandated school health services in the educational and extracurricular environment, by identifying student health needs, interpreting health data, serving as the health expert, implementing health care plans either self or through delegation to unlicensed personnel, and follow-up. 
  • Provide CPR/FA/AED training and certification to staff as needed.  
  • Assesses the health of the school community by analyzing health trends, monitoring accident reports, conducting screenings, evaluating risks and protective factors, and communicating health and wellness issues to the school and community. 
  •  Advocate for the physical and emotional safety in the school environment by being department lead on concussion/TBI education and initiating appropriate prevention programs while intervening as needed.
  • Protect against environmental hazards by recommending environmental safety and fostering policy development that is appropriate.
  • Contain spread of disease by monitoring immunizations, utilizing and educating on disease control methods, educating on infectious and nuisance diseases and assisting in policy development and implementation.
  • Respond to disasters and assist communities in recovery.
  • Support students attending field trips.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing
  • Minimum of one year experience in: Pediatric nursing, community or public health nursing or school nursing
  • Active Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA), Registered Nurse (RN) License
  • Currently hold or are willing to obtain upon hire CDE Special Skills Provider license with appropriate endorsement in: School Nurse 0-21.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification from a nationally recognized program of instruction
  • Must have a valid Colorado Driver's License
  • Communicate (read, write, and speak) in English
  • Completed and submitted BVSD online application

Preferred:

  • Minimum of three years School Nurse experience
  • Public Health/Community Health experience
  • Bilingual Spanish/English
  • Psychiatric and/or Behavioral Health nursing experience
  • Substance Abuse Prevention and/or Counseling experience

Salary Information:

Salary Range 2:$66,226.00 - $99,341.00

Salary Placement varies according to experience and education.

*Pay range listed above is for employees newly hired to BVSD or current BVSD employees that are new to the employee group (existing employees currently in this unit please refer to the pay range on the appropriate salary schedule). BVSD engages in a salary placement process vs. a salary negotiation process.
