Summary:

The Medicaid Resource Nurse helps BVSD families access community resources for their child’s unmet health needs, including vision, dental, mental, and general health care. This position connects families to health coverage resources and collaborates with school staff and healthcare providers to coordinate referrals and care, supporting students’ school readiness and access to education. 

Responsibilities:

  • Establish relationships with community providers who will accept School Medicaid vouchers and offer discounted services for under-resourced families.
  • Utilize language fluency and/or translation platforms and tools to effectively support families.
  • Provide guidance to BVSD staff on community resources, case management strategies, and available support services for families and students.
  • Set priorities based on urgency of the situation, impact of need on child’s school performance, availability of resources and severity of condition.
  • Screens for other resources; establishes that School Medicaid is the payer of last resort.Pays invoices promptly, maintaining organized records of all transactions.
  • Promote EPSDT services in the BVSD student population: Coordinate follow up care for children who need further evaluation after screening (vision, hearing, dental); Administer the BVSD school-based oral health program; Support district immunization compliance efforts and works with public health agencies to prevent, mitigate, and control communicable diseases.
  • Communicate with referral sources, families and providers to ensure seamless coordination of care. Builds and maintains positive working relationships to enhance access to essential health services.
  • Maintain accurate records and submit requested summary reports to meet program requirements.
  • Connects families to health coverage resources. Participates in district-sponsored school and community outreach events as appropriate.
  • Complete all required training programs and maintain licenses. Participates in ongoing conference calls, webinars, and other professional development opportunities.
  • Participates on appropriate Boulder Valley School District Committees, as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with a major pertinent to the position requirements: Nursing
  • Minimum of one year experience in: Related human service field/nursing
  • Active Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) Registered Nurse (RN) license; required at entry
  • Must have or be willing to obtain by official start date a CDE Special Skills Provider license with appropriate endorsement in School Nurse 0-21 (must upload license or in process documentation to application).
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification from a nationally recognized program of instruction; Instructor certification or ability to obtain such, within 6 months of hire 
  • Completed and submitted BVSD on-line application.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.

Preferred:

  • Experience with inter-agency activities
  • Experience working with underserved and culturally diverse populations
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of city, county and state resources and eligibility requirements
  • Bilingual English/Spanish

Salary Information: 

Salary Placement varies according to experience and education.

*Pay range listed above is for employees newly hired to BVSD or current BVSD employees that are new to the employee group (existing employees currently in this unit please refer to the pay range on the appropriate salary schedule).
