Summary:

STEM/Woodshop Instructor

New Vista High School is seeking an innovative and skilled educator to lead our evolving Maker Space --an exciting, hands-on lab equipped with tools ranging from traditional woodworking equipment to cutting-edge technology, including a laser engraver, 3D printer, and jewelry-making tools. This position is ideal for a creative builder and facilitator who can inspire students to explore everything from woodturning to design thinking and personalized fabrication projects.

We are looking for someone who can help shape this space into a true interdisciplinary Maker Hub, fostering student voice, project-based learning, and real-world problem-solving. The course meets during 2nd and 4th quarters, Monday, Tuesday, and Friday from 1:40PM-3:10 PM (90 minutes). Ideal candidates have experience in shop safety, digital fabrication, and collaborative teaching in a progressive, student-centered environment.

Responsibilities: 

  • Facilitate learning experiences and teach course of study as outlined in District course descriptions with latitude to make the course your own. Utilizes innovative and differentiated instructional strategies to meet individual needs and motivate students. Plans and develops an engaging, age appropriate course of study in the classroom.

  • Creates and fosters a safe, inclusive and respectful learning environment in which see themselves represented in the classroom and understand the behavioral expectations, implements procedures and routines that maximize student learning; respond to student misconduct in a respectful manner using restorative practices: actively seek a variety of perspectives: demonstrates mutual respect for peers and adults in a variety of contexts: and communicate and involve parent/guardians in all aspects of theirs childs education.

  • Create and support a culture of equity and inclusion that values, accepts and understands diversity and the impact of culturally responsive practices. Understand and identify barriers in classroom instructional practices that contribute to disproportionate outcomes for underrepresented groups of students.

  • Develop positive relationships with parents/families: encourage parental involvement in students education and ensure effective communication with students and parents: provide, clear and constructive feedback to families about student progress and work collaboratively with the families and significant adults in the lives of their students; foster two way communication with families.

  • Collaborate with special education, CLDE and GT teachers to provide meaningful inclusion and or extension opportunities for students.

  • Act ethically and professionally in all personal conduct, relationships with others, decision-making and collaboration; place children at the center of education and accept responsibility for each students academic success and well-being.

  • Supervise students in the classroom, and enforce safety and security standards set by the District.

  • Follow state legal requirements and District and building policies and procedures.

Qualifications: 

Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Complete and submitted BVSD online application
  • Communicate (read, write, and speak) in English

Preferred:
  • Must be available after school, evenings and weekends
  • Knowledge of all aspects of elementary school activity programming.
  • Proven leadership qualities and successful experience in working with elementary school students.

Salary Information: 

Salary Placement varies according to experience and education.
