Summary:

The Boulder Valley School District is seeking an Information Security Analyst/Engineer who is collaborative and excited to partner with groups ranging from students and teachers to department heads and technical architects. The BVSD InfoSec team is currently reinventing itself and are looking for someone with the passion and patience to help move us forward. 

Under the direction of the Director of Information Technology Security, the Information Security Analyst supports the implementation, monitoring, and maintenance of BVSD’s information security systems and practices. This position collaborates with internal departments and district partners to ensure the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of district data and technology systems. Responsibilities include responding to security alerts and tickets, conducting vulnerability assessments and remediation, managing antivirus and filtering systems, and assisting with incident investigations. The role also contributes to security awareness initiatives, reviews EdTech vendor compliance, develops automation scripts, and provides backup support for information and records requests. Through proactive monitoring and collaboration, the Security Support Specialist helps safeguard district operations and promotes a culture of cybersecurity awareness.

Responsibilities: 

  • Work with internal departmental teams and external district groups on implementation of security related aspects for projects and deployments and to deploy solutions for any security related issues that arise. Collaborate with internal teams and district partners to implement and support security measures for projects, deployments, and issue resolution.
  • Implement and maintain antivirus, web filtering, and email filtering systems. Implement, manage, and maintain antivirus, web filtering, and email filtering systems to ensure network security and threat prevention.
  • Monitor the environment and respond to risks focusing on G Suite alerts, email filtering alerts, antivirus alerts along with tickets received from teachers, students, and families. Monitor and respond to security risks by triaging Google Workspace, email filtering, and antivirus alerts, as well as tickets from teachers, students, and families.
  • Act as the first line of support for security tickets. Serve as the primary point of contact for responding to and resolving security support tickets.
  • Assist in creating security awareness communications and outreach. Support the development and delivery of security awareness communications and outreach initiatives.
  • Conduct continuous vulnerability assessment, review and remediation. Perform ongoing vulnerability assessments, reviews, and remediation to maintain system security and compliance.
  • Perform policy and practice review of Ed Tech software providers. Review EdTech vendors’ policies and practices for privacy, security, and compliance, and document findings and recommendations.
  • Build automations and/scripts to assist with data analysis and system configuration. Develop and maintain automations and scripts to streamline data analysis and system configuration.
  • Assist and/or lead in incident investigations as well as troubleshooting and remediation for any service disrupting technical issues. Lead or assist in incident investigations, troubleshooting, and remediation to resolve technical issues impacting service availability.
  • Perform a backup role in information and records requests as needed. Serve as a backup for processing information and records requests, ensuring timely and accurate responses.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications: 

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with a major pertinent to the position requirements: Information Security, Computer Science or related field.
  • Minimum of two years experience in an information security role.
  • Completed and submitted online BVSD application.
  • Communicate (read, write, and speak) in English.
  • One security certification (Security + or equivalent); must acquire within 12 months.

Preferred:

  • Understanding a scripting language like Powershell,PHP, Python Understanding of system security, advanced endpoint protection, email protections, and firewalls, APIs, systems integrations, GSuite, personal computing devices. 
  • Understanding of network protocols(e.g. TCP/UDP, SSL, HTTP/S, FTP/SFTP/FTPS, SSH, IPSec, LDAP, ADFS, SAML, etc.). and architecture, virtual networking hardware and cloud-based solutions i.e hosted/SaaS solutions. 
  • Experience with Microsoft Server & Client environments (secure configurations, hardening); Linux experience a plus. 
  • Experience with deep packet inspection firewalls and other IDP/IPS solutions (i.e. Palo Alto, Checkpoint, etc.) 
  • Knowledge of data security controls and best practices.
  • Ability to analyze and mitigate security threats/breaches Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

Salary Information: 

Salary Placement varies according to experience and education.

*Pay range listed above is for employees newly hired to BVSD or current BVSD employees that are new to the employee group (existing employees currently in this unit please refer to the pay range on the appropriate salary schedule).
