Summary:

Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Facilities the HVAC Manager will supervise, manage and oversee the Districts HVAC Staff, systems, policies, procedures and budgets. Working with Engineers, Consultants, Maintenance HVAC Technicians and school administrators, assists HVAC Technicians in daily HVAC issues and takes the lead in reviewing, developing, refining, testing, and approving operational sequences for all Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning systems in all buildings District Wide with a goal of providing a suitable learning environment while conserving energy consumption.

Responsibilities: 

  • Continuously monitor HVAC systems and assist HVAC technicians in trouble-shooting, improving and spotting potential issues with the operation, control, and programming of HVAC systems and equipment.
  • Supervise and manage personnel, finances, vehicles and equipment.
  • Program, monitor, trouble-shoot, test, fine-tune and improve energy management programs and operational sequences to achieve suitable learning and working environments while optimizing energy consumption. Program scheduling of all District building HVAC systems for normal, holiday, and after hours operation for all BVSD user groups.
  • Implement programs policies and procedures for the planned maintenance and emergency repair of facilities HVAC Systems.
  • Professional development, training, attend professional association meetings.
  • Manage Capital Construction, Bond Projects, commissioning and recommissioning, HVAC and controls projects as needed.
  • Standardize all Energy Management System programming, operational sequences, and graphics interface to improve overall learning and working environments while improving energy efficiency.
  • Assist in developing the budget and monitor expenditures for personnel, finances, vehicles and equipment.
  • Provide appropriate responses to facility or utility emergencies to ensure uninterrupted delivery of the educational programs and support services. Provide emergency response to the Crisis Management Team regarding facility issues as part of the district’s disaster preparedness effort.
  • Assist school principals in defining, prioritizing and scheduling maintenance and construction projects at their facilities.
  • On call for emergency response, seven days per week, 24 hours a day.
  • Assist in planning maintenance activities, and assessing facility needs for immediate short-term and long-term implementation.
  • Assure evaluation of maintenance personnel in accordance with the negotiated agreements and HRD evaluation cycles.
  • Update and document all HVAC & Energy Management Program schemes and operational sequences for the BVSD Technical Specifications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: 

Required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent plus specialized advanced courses in business, technical or vocational school up to two years of college.
  • Minimum of fours years experience in Journeyman in Mechanical Trades.
  • EPA Universal Certification.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Communicates (reads, writes, and speaks) in English.
  • Completed and submitted BVSD online application.
  • Constantly reaching, bending, stooping, ability to climb ladders, and be on your feet 8 hours/day.

Preferred:

  • Advanced knowledge of mechanical systems gained through a combination of education and experience working in the field.
  • Advanced knowledge of computers in general and a working knowledge of Building Automation Systems.
  • Ability to coach, train & develop HVAC technicians.
  • Ability and willingness to be on call and/or respond to calls 24/7.
  • Knowledge of International Mechanical Code and International Plumbing Code.
  • Ability to maintain honesty and integrity in all aspects of the job
  • Ability and willingness to adhere to attendance requirements, including regular and punctual employee presence
  • Ability to promote and follow Board of Education policies, Superintendent policies and building and department procedures
  • Effectively communicate and correspond via email, text messages or calls.
  • Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds.
  • Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.

Salary Information: 

Salary Range 6: $84,827.00 - $127,241.00

Salary Placement varies according to experience and education.

*Pay range listed above is for employees newly hired to BVSD or current BVSD employees that are new to the employee group (existing employees currently in this unit please refer to the pay range on the appropriate salary schedule).
