Work Schedule: 9 Month - Hourly

Pay Rate: $17.96

Summary:

The Fresh Fruit and Vegetable (FFVP) Program Assistant serves elementary schools and is responsible for preparing ingredients, providing brief nutrition education, and serving fresh produce snacks to students during recess, using a mobile outdoor cart. They engage positively with students, model healthy eating habits, monitor allergies and choking risks, and maintain a clean service cart and area while ensuring proper food safety, allergen management, and accurate record-keeping. Under the direction of the Food Service Program, they work independently outdoors and coordinate with the school kitchen staff to manage weekly produce delivery and properly portion food.

Responsibilities: 

  • Participate in the preparation of ingredients according to the planned menu for the Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program.
  • Provide fresh produce to students throughout the school day using a mobile outdoor cart, operating across multiple locations and weather conditions—including heat, cold, rain, and snow—and separate from other child nutrition programs. Utilize proper allergen control and management in serving food to students.
  • Ensure the freshness of all prepared items by implementing proper rotation of food items prepared, properly wrapping and labeling prepared food items, and preparing only the amounts of food items as assigned.
  • Record and maintain records, including but not limited to: student allergies, temperature logs, orders, inventory, and service records.
  • Administer nutrition education to students under the auspices of the Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program.
  • In partnership with Food Services supervisors, determines order quantity amounts of program fruits and vegetables.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of all kitchen prep, serving, and storage areas associated with FFVP, including but not limited to outdoor serving kiosk, carts, refrigerators, freezers, and dry storage.
  • Understand and communicate the philosophy of the BVSD Food Services Program and deliver information to the school population about the food, the sources of the food, the recipes, and the overall program.
  • Foster district commitment to excellence and equity by ensuring that employees and students are valued, respected and provided a positive work/learning environment.
  • Read and respond to all emails and newsletters. Establish positive relations with internal and external customers, including students, staff, and school administration, parents, and community members.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: 

Required:

  • Completed and submitted BVSD online application.
  • Communicate (read, write, and speak) in English.
  • Food Handler’s License; must acquire within 3 months of hire
  • Must pass post offer physical.
  • Must proficiently operate kitchen equipment within the probationary period.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. on a frequent basis.
  • Ability to interact positively with kitchen staff, school staff, and students.
  • Must have ability to work at two separate, predetermined locations within the district.

Preferred:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one year experience in: Food Service Work.
  • Basic skills: personal computing, keyboarding and word processing; critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Understand and follow all HACCP Standard Operating Procedures.

Salary Information: 

Salary Placement varies according to experience and education.
