Summary:
At the direction of the Director of Human Resources, the Employee 504 and ADA Compliance Specialist oversees and implements 504s related to employees and ensures compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. This role serves as a key figure in promoting an inclusive environment for all employees, ensuring that individuals with disabilities are treated fairly and given equal opportunities. Additionally, the Employee 504 Human Resources Specialist will assist with various special projects throughout the HR Department.
Responsibilities:
- At the direction of the Human Resources Director, coordinate the collection of data related to employee 504 accommodations, labor negotiations, compensation, and HR special projects.
- Work closely with and support employees with disabilities, supervisors, and district stakeholders to determine job related accommodations.
- Ensure that BVSD is compliant with Federal law and board policy as it pertains to employees’ accommodations under the American Disabilities Act.
- Stay abreast of state and federal laws, regulations, and guidelines related to disability discrimination, Section 504, and the ADA, by attending regular training and participating in ongoing professional development opportunities.
- Collaborate with the School District’s ADA Compliance Coordinator, department managers/supervisors and directors to identify and address potential areas of non-compliance or areas of improvement related to Section 504/ADA.
- Coordinate and attend employee 504 meetings and trainings.
- Interface with district stakeholders including: Workers Compensation, Benefits, Legal, and Human Resources Leave of Absence Technicians.
- Investigate and mediate disputes on employee disability related matters; audit and maintain records of employees with 504 plans.
- Works closely with the Department of Operations on physical access issues.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree with a major pertinent to the position requirements.
- 5 years of experience in Human Resources, ADA/504 compliance, or disability services.
- Completed and submitted BVSD online application.
Preferred:
Advanced knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and related legal regulations.
Knowledge about disabilities and chronic health conditions.
Experience developing accommodations in workplace settings.
Experience in training and development related to disability awareness and inclusivity.
Knowledge of additional labor laws and regulations beyond Section 504.
Salary Information:
Salary Placement varies according to experience and education.
*Pay range listed above is for employees newly hired to BVSD or current BVSD employees that are new to the employee group (existing employees currently in this unit please refer to the pay range on the appropriate salary schedule). BVSD engages in a salary placement process vs. a salary negotiation process.
