Summary:

The Director of Health Services provides districtwide leadership, supervision, and strategic direction for Health Services, School Medicaid, and Health and Wellness programs to support student health, safety, and access to learning. Oversees nursing and related health services staff, ensures compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and professional standards, and leads program development, training, budgeting, quality assurance, and cross-departmental coordination. Serves as the district’s lead for health services and works collaboratively with school leaders, district departments, families, public health agencies, and community partners to ensure effective health supports for students across all district programs, including individualized health plans and health-related supports connected to Section 504 plans and IEPs.

Responsibilities: 

  • Provide leadership, supervision, and evaluation for Health Services, Medicaid, and Health and Wellness staff, including school nurses, nursing support staff, Medicaid staff, health services paraeducator trainer, vision and hearing screening staff, Early Childhood/Child Find staff, and other assigned personnel. Direct workload, staffing assignments, and performance expectations.
  • Lead the development, implementation, coordination, and continuous improvement of districtwide Health Services, School Medicaid, and Health and Wellness programs, including program goals, service delivery models, operational procedures, and alignment with district priorities and the Strategic Plan.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, professional standards, and district policies related to school nursing, student health services, Medicaid reimbursement, health education, data privacy, delegated health procedures, and health-related services for students with disabilities.
  • Provide leadership and consultation regarding individualized health plans and nursing supports associated with student medical needs, including health-related supports connected to Section 504 plans, IEPs, and other student support plans, in collaboration with school staff, special education staff, and administrators.
  • Serve as the district liaison to local and state public health agencies, health care providers, outside nursing agencies, community partners, and relevant professional organizations regarding student health services, public health matters, and wellness initiatives.
  • Lead district response and provide guidance related to communicable diseases, disease outbreaks, exclusion practices, immunization compliance, and other public health or student health emergencies in coordination with district leadership and public health authorities.
  • Develop, maintain, and communicate districtwide health services procedures, protocols, and resources to ensure consistent, compliant implementation and coordination of health services across all district programs, including schools, preschool, Child Find, and grant-supported services.
  • Direct and supervise training, onboarding, orientation, and ongoing professional development for Health Services staff, including oversight of training for delegated health tasks and related compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate with school leaders and district departments to support student health needs, crisis response, and health-related operational planning.
  • Oversee budgets, grants, and other funding sources supporting Health Services, School Medicaid, and Health and Wellness programs, including budget development, monitoring, compliance, and fiscal planning.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: 

Required: 

  • Master's Degree in a major pertinent to the position requirements: Nursing or health related field, such as Public Health with a minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. 
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in: Nursing and Supervisor role. 
  • Must have a DORA RN license. 
  • Must have a CDE School Nurse 0-21 license. 
  • Must have a valid driver’s license. 
  • Completed and submitted BVSD online application. 

Preferred: 

  • Experienced in working with special needs students or adults. 
  • Experience with Health Education and prevention programming.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and able to guide, direct, train and supervise persons of diverse backgrounds and skills. 
  • Ability to work integrally and seamlessly within an educational setting from a health care provider perspective. 
  • Knowledge of the Colorado Nurse Practice Act, Colorado Department of Education school nursing guidelines, School Medicaid, and applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to student health services and health education. 
  • Knowledge of legal, risk management, and liability issues related to school nursing administration, delegated health tasks, medication administration, and health-related services for students. 
  • Knowledge of data privacy and confidentiality requirements, including FERPA, HIPAA, and other applicable laws and regulations. 
  • Knowledge of communicable disease response, immunization requirements, exclusion practices, and coordination with public health agencies. 
  • Demonstrated commitment to ethical practice, professional integrity, and continuous learning. 
  • Ability to lead, supervise, coach, evaluate, and support staff with diverse professional backgrounds and skill sets. 
  • Ability to frequently travel to school facilities.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with school and district administrators, special education staff, public health officials, medical providers, families, and community partners. 
  • Ability to make sound decisions, manage conflict, and hold others accountable in a professional and constructive manner. 
  • Strong public speaking, presentation, facilitation, and training skills. 
  • Computer skills and commitment to keeping skills up to date for district software, word processing and fiscal reporting. 
  • Availability to consult, advise, problem-solve and support administration on decisions related to health and wellness programs. 

Salary Information: 

Salary Range 11: $110,256.00 - $165,384.00

Salary Placement varies according to experience and education.

*Pay range listed above is for employees newly hired to BVSD or current BVSD employees that are new to the employee group (existing employees currently in this unit please refer to the pay range on the appropriate salary schedule).
