Summary:
The Director of Gifted Education provides strategic leadership and oversight for gifted programming, ensuring equitable identification, access, and high-quality instructional practices for advanced learners. This role builds systemwide capacity by coaching school-based advisors and principals, partnering with academic teams to integrate meaningful extension opportunities into standards-based curriculum, and ensuring consistent implementation across schools within the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework. The Director oversees compliance with state and federal requirements, monitors student data to inform continuous improvement, and manages staff and budget to maximize program impact. Additionally, this position serves as a key liaison to families and the community, fostering strong partnerships to enhance the gifted learner experience.
Responsibilities:
- Support principals and educators in the identification, assessment, and programming (both through advanced pathways and embedded extension) to support gifted learners; continue to increase proportionality with gifted-identified students.
- Coach and support school-based Gifted & Talented Advisors to build shared capacity and understanding in how to support gifted learners, and ensure consistency in practice across schools. Lead regular meetings with the Gifted & Talented Advisors.
- Partner with other Academics directors to lead stakeholder development, strategy development, and implementation of standards-based education with embedded and meaningful opportunities for advancement and extension.
- Create, lead, facilitate, and support district-wide implementation of effective differentiated, standards-aligned instructional practices across all content areas and support tiered interventions for gifted and advanced learners; partner with Director of MTSS to align practice with MTSS structure.
- Ensure comprehensive knowledge and application of federal and state legislation, regulations, and research related to gifted education; monitor updates and translate changes into district practices to maintain compliance and inform programming. Represent the district in state and regional networks and professional meetings.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and district requirements including GT identification and advanced learning plans (ALPs).
- Monitor qualitative and quantitative gifted student achievement data and collaborate with stakeholders to design meaningful next steps for gifted learners (in areas such as curricular resources, instructional strategies, and professional learning).
- Hire, supervise, and evaluate certified staff assigned to the district Gifted team.
- Develop and manage the Gifted budget. Ensure all state and district processes and expectations are followed and work to maximize the impact of Gifted dollars on the Gifted student experience in BVSD.
- Support the community engagement process in Gifted education through facilitating student and parent Gifted groups and ongoing partnership with external Gifted family and community groups.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Colorado teaching license with Gifted and Talented endorsement or advanced degree in Gifted Education.
- Minimum five years experience in gifted education or working directly with gifted students at the elementary and/or secondary level.
- Completed and submitted BVSD online application.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
Preferred:
- Experience as a Building Principal.
- Hold a current Colorado Principal license.
- Strong educational background in gifted education including expertise in gifted assessments such as IQ testing, CogAT, NNAT3, state mandated and district-based assessments.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, school staff, and administrators.
- Ability to set a vision for improvement and design and implement a plan to fulfill the vision.
- Ability to provide high quality professional development for K-12 teachers.
- Ability to work with elementary and/or secondary teachers and principals in a coaching capacity.
- Demonstrated excellence in differentiation of instruction and best practices for gifted students.
Salary Information:
Salary Range 11: $110,256.00 - $165,384.00
Salary Placement varies according to experience and education.
*Pay range listed above is for employees newly hired to BVSD or current BVSD employees that are new to the employee group (existing employees currently in this unit please refer to the pay range on the appropriate salary schedule).
