Summary:

The Communications Multimedia Reporter/Producer is responsible for covering the Boulder Valley School District, including sharing important information about developments in the district to students, staff, families and community members and highlighting newsworthy events and stories. Using a variety of avenues from writing to video, they help to advance BVSD’s mission and bolster the district’s positive image in the community, with an eye towards continuous improvement. They also use their skills and knowledge to drive our culture of transparency and storytelling in our schools and departments, creating a well-informed community. We work collaboratively to cover projects, content creation, emergency response and training support of our communications tools as a team. The ideal candidate is open to expanding communication skillsets and in-person experiences, while being a part of an in-person experience serving our schools.

We’re looking for a go-getter to join our small, fast-paced, passionate communications team at the Boulder Valley School District. The ideal candidate is a qualified storyteller and team-player who can work independently to create and share stories from around our school district in a variety of formats. Based in Boulder, we support our 56 schools and district team with editorial needs, crisis response and creative storytelling to share the good news and important updates of our district and schools.

Responsibilities: 

  • Create high-impact multimedia and audiovisual content to support the district’s editorial and marketing priorities, including written stories, videos, photography, graphics, livestreams, and digital media. Lead all phases of content development including identifying and pitching story concepts through production (writing, editing, design, and filming), publishing, promotion, and post-campaign analytics—to evaluate effectiveness and inform continuous improvement.
  • Gather, review and manage assignments of editorial opportunities, including but not limited to story ideas, events, and other information from departments, schools, and partners. Prepares the event calendar and manages editorial assignments. Coordinates daily coverage.
  • Responsible for the promotion and coverage of district events, including creating the monthly BVSD Events Guide newsletter for parents and staff. 
  • Lead and manage social media avenues, including district Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube pages. Monitors social media and provides timely responses to community questions and concerns. Supports schools and departments with social media usage, campaigns, and consultation. Responsible for paid social media advertising.
  • Serve as a rotating member of the district Standard Response Protocol (SRP) team. Responsible for monitoring and responding to district-level events and providing communication support. Monitor social media and assist with crisis events as needed.
  • Lead professional development, training and consultation for school and district content managers and social media users to grow skills and ensure a consistent, high-quality brand presence across all platforms.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: 

Required:

  • Complete and submitted BVSD online application
  • Communicate (read, write, and speak) in English
  • Bachelor’s Degree with a major in Journalism, Communications, Marketing or other related field. 
  • Minimum of four years of relevant work experience in communications, marketing, digital content management, community engagement, or public relations.
  • Minimum of two years of work experience in multi-media content creation, including videos and livestreaming
  • Proficiency in video production, including videography and editing in Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut Pro, or equivalent.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must upload a cover letter.
  • Must include a resume.
  • Must provide a link to samples of previous work, including clip showcasing completed video projects and livestreams. 

Preferred:

  • Excellent reporting, writing, and editing skills; attention to detail is essential. 
  • Proficiency in video production and editing in Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut Pro, or equivalent. 
  • Must be able to repurpose content for multiple platforms and for various audiences. 
  • Growth mindset and ability to work collaboratively with a small team of dedicated communications professionals. 
  • Proficient with Google apps, Adobe suite, web tools, analytics, and new media platforms. 
  • Capable of working effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds. 
  • Ability to meet deadlines. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and customer service skills. 
  • Evidence of organizational, planning, and time management skills. 
  • Ability to respond effectively to short-notice requests and manage multiple priorities. 
  • Familiar with AP style. 
  • Occasionally requires attendance at school and district events after hours and weekends. 

Salary Information: 

Salary Range 4:$75,859.00 - $113,788.00

Salary Placement varies according to experience and education.

*Pay range listed above is for employees newly hired to BVSD or current BVSD employees that are new to the employee group (existing employees currently in this unit please refer to the pay range on the appropriate salary schedule).
