Summary:

The Chief Academic Officer (CAO) is responsible for sustaining and improving the culture of high academic excellence in all district schools. The CAO is responsible for implementing systems that align curriculum, assessments, instruction, research, and support services vertically. The CAO leads the educational performance of the district through a clear vision and strategic direction for the district’s curriculum, instruction, and school improvement initiatives. The CAO works collaboratively with the professional development team to equip educators and leaders with a deep understanding of instructional best practices. This collaboration ensures that educational standards are mastered aligning with and fulfilling the district's strategic initiatives. CAO works alongside other district leaders to address quality of instructional practices. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Provide educational and administrative leadership that builds & supports a high performance education team by inspiring, integrating, and aligning the academic work of the district; develop and maintain clear and inclusive decision-making processes to ensure integration of academic supports and services.
  • Assure that the districts academic philosophy, values, and mission are carried out in a manner which is conducive to innovation, positive thinking accountability, and performance; assist in development, organization, and delivery of all curricular and instructional programs and services to ensure they are based on best practices and aligned to district and state standards and assessment.
  • Supervise, evaluate, and manage PK-12 academic curriculum across the district. Ensure communication, training, monitoring, and support is structured for all academic content areas PK-12; assist in professional learning planning to improve school achievement. 
  • Reduce the variability in curricula, instruction, and assessment and work to implement a vertically aligned curriculum and assessment system, which includes the management of the roll-out of Colorado standards and consistent delivery of instruction aligned with to standards (i.e. classroom to classroom, grade by grade, school by school. 
  •  Collaborate with Assistant Superintendents, Executive Directors, and other divisions and departments to ensure support to teachers and the effective delivery of instructional programs and services to schools.
  •  Collaborate with Human Resources to ensure compliance with board policy and negotiated agreements.
  • Ensure district compliance with state regulations and policies in monitoring, assessment, and reporting for all academic programs. 
  • Lead Executive Director of Academics, Director of Early Childhood, Director of MTSS, Director of Literacy, Director of STEAM, Director of CLDE, Director of Educational Equity, Director of Gifted & Talented, and Director of Academic Services; managing PK-12 academic curriculum across the district. Ensure communication, professional learning and training, monitoring, and support is structured for all academic content areas PK-12.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: 

Required:

  • Masters degree in: Curriculum, Teaching and Learning, Educational Leadership, or Education Administration 
  • Minimum of 3-5 year of progressive experience with distinct level instructional systems including curriculum, instruction, research, assessment, & programming in an environment comprised of diverse student body, sizeable student population of Emerging bilinguals, and free and reduced eligible students.
  • Must currently hold a Principal or Administrator license with CDE.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Completed and submitted BVSD online application.

Preferred:

  • Doctorate degree.
  • Knowledge of Superintendent vision, Strategic Plan, and Board Policy.
  • Ability to make difficult decisions and hold others accountable. 


Salary Information: 

Salary Range 22: $156,585 - $234,884

Salary Placement varies according to experience and education.

*Pay range listed above is for employees newly hired to BVSD or current BVSD employees that are new to the employee group (existing employees currently in this unit please refer to the pay range on the appropriate salary schedule).
