Summary:
The Campus Safety and Security Monitor supports a safe, orderly, and positive learning environment by providing high-visibility supervision and monitoring across school buildings, grounds, and activities. This role monitors student behavior, assists with conflict de-escalation, enforces school safety expectations, and supports administrators during routine operations and emergency situations. The Monitor conducts interior and exterior patrols, observes security camera footage, manages visitor access, and provides security support during lunch periods, parking lot activity, extracurricular events, and crisis drills. The position works collaboratively with school administrators, security staff, and safety advocates to document incidents, report safety concerns, and promote the overall safety and well-being of students, staff, and school facilities.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain a safe and orderly school environment by providing high-visibility supervision through regular interior and exterior patrols of campus buildings and grounds. Monitor student behavior to deter unsafe or inappropriate conduct; intervene to de-escalate verbal conflicts and minor physical altercations; and enforce school safety rules and behavioral expectations. Document and report student incidents, unsafe conditions, and potential health or safety hazards to administrators to support campus safety and a positive learning environment.
- Monitor students during lunch hour inside and outside of the building.
- Monitor security cameras to oversee the safety and security of students, staff and school assets.
- Patrol parking lots for unidentified vehicles or unsafe situations.
- Assist visitors and check for visitor passes. Escort and document unauthorized visitors to the office or off campus.
- Assist administrators, Security Agents and School Safety Advocates in the investigation of illegal activity within the school.
- Provide security at sporting events and/or other extracurricular activities outside of school hours, including weekends and/or evenings as directed.
- Assist administrators, staff, and students during crisis situations, including fire drills, tornado drills, weapons control, bomb threats, and lockdowns.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 21 years of age.
- Requires passing a pre-employment physical.
- Complete and submitted BVSD online application.
- Communicate (read, write, and speak) in English.
- CPR & First Aid certification; must acquire within 1 year
- CPI; must acquire within 1 year, and annual recertification thereafter
Preferred:
- Minimum of one year experience working with groups of elementary, middle, and/or high school students.
- Ability to respond to hostile situations and intervene in physical altercations.
- Ability to work with large groups of students, including students with special needs.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule to include evenings and weekends.
- Ability to promote and follow Board of Education policies, Superintendent policies and building and department procedures.
- Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with all people including those from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds.
- Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.
Salary Information:
Salary Placement varies according to experience and education.
*Pay range listed above is for employees newly hired to BVSD or current BVSD employees that are new to the employee group (existing employees currently in this unit please refer to the pay range on the appropriate salary schedule).
