Hiring Pay Range: *$25.74 - 32.15

Summary:
BVSD Bus Drivers are responsible for safely transporting students to and from school and district-authorized activities by operating, inspecting, and maintaining district vehicles in accordance with all regulations, policies, and procedures. The role manages student behavior using established strategies; monitors for safety, well-being, and medical concerns; and provides specialized support to students with disabilities, including the use of adaptive equipment. The Bus Driver follows assigned schedules and route guides, maintains vehicle cleanliness, completes required documentation, and communicates professionally, collaborating with dispatch, supervisors, parents/guardians, and school staff, and must obtain and maintain the required Commercial Driver’s License.
Responsibilities:
- Report to the assigned terminal as scheduled and safely operate assigned bus routes in accordance with routing directions and student pickup and drop-off schedules; follow regulations, policies, and procedures related to bus operation, student behavior, and safety; complete required documentation; and respond appropriately to emergencies, including first aid, body-fluid cleanup, and student evacuation procedures.
- Monitor and manage student behavior, ensuring the safe transportation of students by accounting for all riders before and after each route or trip, managing student behavior using established strategies, and monitoring for signs of child abuse, harassment, bullying, or medical concerns.
- Provide support for students with disabilities, including, but not limited to the proper use of transportation equipment, attending to hygienic needs and behavioral challenges, monitoring medical conditions, and utilizing specialized communication tools.
- Maintain cleanliness of assigned vehicle and route guides, and communicate using a two-way radio in compliance with FCC regulations.
- Support the development of bus evacuation plans and student management strategies, and provide dispatch, routing, and supervisors with input on route accuracy, safety concerns, stop locations, timing, and student information.
- Maintain professional communication and demeanor with staff, parents, students, and community members, and ensure a safe and collaborative environment on the bus.
- Operate, perform pre and post trips, inspect and report defects of transportation fleet vehicles in all weather and road conditions.
- Successfully complete all required courses, evaluations and meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Complete and submitted BVSD online application
- Communicate (read, write, and speak) in English
- Must pass Pre-Employment/Post-Offer Physical Examination; required upon hire
- Must pass transportation equipment evaluation within 30 days of hire
- Currently hold a valid Colorado Driver's License
- Possess or obtain a Colorado Commercial Driver's License Class B with P and S endorsement no airbrake restriction within 30 days of hire
- Department of Transportation (DOT) Medical Examiner's Certificate (MEC) required upon hire
- Submit a current Motor Vehicle Record (MVR). Must be insurable and maintain insurability per Colorado School Districts Self Insurance Pool (CSDSIP) standards (MVR Insurability Standards); required upon hire
- Child Safety Restraint Systems for School Buses; must acquire within 30 days of hire
- Two-way radio systems; required upon hire
- Must maintain all required certifications throughout employment
Preferred:
- Experience working with children ages 0-21 years
- Ability to diffuse and manage volatile and stressful situations
- Bilingual (Spanish/English)
Salary Information:
Salary Placement varies according to experience and education.
