Summary:
Under the supervision of the Transportation Supervisor, the Trainer provides training, coaching, and technical guidance to transportation staff, district employees, and volunteers to ensure safe, compliant, and effective transportation operations. This position supports the development and delivery of training and safety programs, conducts and documents skills and CDL testing, assists with hiring processes, and ensures adherence to transportation policies and procedures. Responsibilities also include coordinating special projects, maintaining compliance and equipment records, responding to vehicle accidents, collaborating with internal and external partners, and serving as relief driver, assistant, or dispatcher as directed.
Responsibilities:
- Advise, coach and train transportation employees, district employees and volunteers in transportation-related areas. Assist with transportation classes and represent BVSD transportation in and out of the district.
- Assist in the development and instruction of training and safety programs.
- Support transportation operations and staffing needs by assisting with candidate interviews and serving as relief driver, assistant, or dispatcher as needed.
- Coordinate assigned transportation projects and assist with inventory management and maintenance of transportation-related equipment and systems.
- Perform, document and provide input to transportation administration regarding skill tests on transportation personnel.
- Ensure compliance with transportation policies, procedures, and safety requirements, including responding to and supporting vehicle accident investigations and documentation.
- Test district employees for their Commercial Drivers’ License (CDL).
- Participate in state and local committees and collaborate with community partners.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of two years experience in: School Bus Transportation, preferably training.
- Completed and submitted BVSD online application.
- Communicate (read, write, and speak) in English.
- Flexibility in daily schedule and terminal location
- Valid Colorado Commercial Driver's License, Class B License with Passenger and School Bus Endorsements and no Air Brake restrictions.
- Submit a current Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and be insurable per Colorado School Districts Self Insurance Pool (CSDSIP) standards.
- BVSD Mountain Certification, must obtain within 90 days of hire.
- Crisis Prevention Institute Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Instructor Certification, must obtain within 90 days per department need.
- Ukeru Instructor Certification must obtain within 90 days per department need.
- CDL Third Party Tester, must obtain within 90 days per department need.
- Child Safety Restraint Systems for School Buses; must obtain within 60 days of hire.
- BVSD Special needs Certification; must obtain within 60 days of hire
- CDE Entry Level Driver Training Certification (ELDT), Theory and On the Road; must obtain within 90 days of hire.
- Two-Way Radio Systems; required at entry.
Preferred:
- Bilingual English/Spanish.
- Ability to create and revise curriculum pertaining to School/School Bus Safety.
- Advanced interpersonal relation skills including customer service and public relations
- Ability to interpret, communicate and model federal, state and local regulations
- Operating knowledge of school bus vehicles within the probationary employment period
- Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers, and peripherals
Salary Information:
Salary Placement varies according to experience and education.
*Pay range listed above is for employees newly hired to BVSD or current BVSD employees that are new to the employee group (existing employees currently in this unit please refer to the pay range on the appropriate salary schedule).
