Summary:
Provides general oversight of school auditorium and performance spaces when outside groups and organizations rent or host events through Community Schools Community Use program. The Auditorium Technician is responsible for general oversight of the districts auditorium, performance facilities, and equipment in order to provide a safe environment for students, district staff, and community users. Coordinates between the school, rental group, and Community Use team to ensure use of the auditorium and accompanying equipment is appropriate and professionally maintained. Reports issues and concerns in a timely manner.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain safety and perform inspection of district auditoriums and/or performance spaces per district and industry safety standards (fire, electrical, rigging, etc.). Inventory and maintain all auditorium technical supplies and equipment. Notify school and Community Use Manager when equipment needs service or replacement.
- Communicate and coordinate with the Community Manager on requests, rentals, and to secure equipment as needed.
- Assist in the creation and maintenance of training and operational manuals and regulations.
- Ensure ethical and responsible stewardship of District assets by adhering to all applicable Board policies. Ensure community use permits that involve auditorium rentals include standardized language. Collaborate with the Community Use Manager to ensure permits meet District legal and risk management thresholds.
- Plan, supervise, and manage the technical demands for auditorium events scheduled through Community Use permits, including set up, presentation, and strike.
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with the school, Community Use Manager, and as needed the Facilities team regarding repairs needed in the auditorium and with the safe usage of the equipment contained therein.
- Communicate, coordinate, educate, and problem solve with community users and school personnel when they request use of BVSD Auditorium.
- Serve as a representative for Community Use and the use of district facilities when speaking with stakeholders who reside, work, and serve within the Districts boundaries. Provide outreach as appropriate with other Colorado school districts.
- Provide consultation and technical support for school productions as needed. Assist in the selection, training, and monitoring of part-time auditorium staff, which may be students or district staff. Act as a technical resource to school staff, internal and outside community vendors.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent plus specialized, advanced coursework related to technical auditorium, sound, lighting, and/or theater production equal to two years of college required. Equivalent combination of education and/or experience may substitute for education/coursework requirements.
- At least two years experience working on auditorium, theater, musical, etc productions.
- Must have a valid driver's license
- Communicate (read, write, and speak) in English, must pass English component of interview process.
- Completed and submitted BVSD online application
Preferred:
- Operating knowledge of technology generally found in auditoriums, such as stage lighting and controls, stage rigging, sound systems, intercom system and house monitor, and audio visual technology systems.
- Knowledge of building and fire codes, National Electrical Code, and Life Safety Codes. All safety codes involving auditoriums.
- Ability to troubleshoot lighting and sound board problems
- Excellent communication and public relation skills
- Ability to train others on the use of auditorium equipment
- Computer, managerial, and scheduling experience
- Ability to be on call as needed
- Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet district and production schedule needs
Salary Information:
Salary Placement varies according to experience and education.
BVSD engages in a salary placement process vs. a salary negotiation process.
