Summary:

The Audiologist provides hearing screenings/evaluations and related follow-up/consultation including participation in Individualized Educational Plans and Section 504 Plans for all students enrolled in the Boulder Valley School District as well as babies/young children not yet enrolled, ages birth to 6 years old, who reside within the district boundaries.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in planning, implementing, and supervising District hearing screenings. 
  • Assist in the provision of training and support individuals who conduct and implement hearing screening programs. 
  • Make appropriate referrals (i.e., medical or audiological) for those students who failed the district wide hearing screening. 
  • Perform comprehensive, educationally and/or developmentally relevant hearing evaluations and/or auditory processing evaluations and make recommendations to enhance communication access and learning. 
  • Maintain student audiological records/reports. 
  • Participate in IEP (Individual Education Plan) and 504 (Americans with Disabilities Act) meetings. 
  • Provide written and/or verbal interpretation of audiological assessment results and auditory processing evaluation results to other school personnel, parents, and students. 
  • Provides and maintains FM assistive listening devices for students with hearing loss or auditory processing disorder. 
  • Provide indirect-services to district personnel regarding hearing loss, hearing aids, cochlear implants, FM systems and auditory training. 
  • Participate in professional development opportunities that are consistent with the goal of this position. 
  • Maintain good communication and provide necessary audiological information to parents, teachers, staff, outside medical professionals, etc. to maximize hearing and academic benefits for district students. 
  • Collaborate with families, general education staff, paraprofessionals, and service providers. 
  • This includes areas such as accommodations, instruction, assessment, least restrictive environment, data collection and assessment and meaningful inclusion. 
  • Create and foster a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment in which all students see themselves represented in the classroom and understand the behavioral expectations; implements procedures and routines that maximize student learning; respond to student misconduct in a respectful manner using restorative practices; actively seek a variety of perspectives; demonstrate mutual respect for peers and adults in a variety of contexts; and communicate and involve parent/guardians in all aspects of their child’s education. 
  • Create and support a culture of equity and inclusion that values, accepts, and understands diversity and the impact of culturally responsive practices. 
  • Understand and identify barriers in classroom instructional practices that contribute to disproportionate outcomes for underrepresented groups of students. 
  • Develop positive relationships with parents/families; encourage parental involvement in students' education and ensure effective communication with students and parents; provide proactive, clear and constructive feedback to families about student progress and work collaboratively with the families and significant adults in the lives of their students; and foster two way communication with families. 
  • Exhibit a growth mindset through participation in high quality professional learning; actively participate in the evaluation process through goal setting, reflection, and development of new strategies and techniques. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Currently hold a Colorado teaching license or have licensure application in process with a School Audiologist endorsement (must upload license or in process documentation to application).
  • Completed and submitted BVSD online application.

Preferred:

  • Masters or Doctoral degree in Audiology. Valid Colorado Department of Education Type E Certificate with Endorsement in Audiology.
  • ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology.
  • Pediatric experience.
  • Knowledge of Spanish or ASL.

Salary Information:

Salary Placement varies according to experience and education.
