Summary:

This position provides prevention and intervention in attendance and truancy issues. The attendance advocate works closely with students, families, school and district personnel and court personnel to improve student attendance and student success.

Responsibilities: 

  • Coordinate, strategize, advocate, and implement with district and school staff, students, and parents a resolution for attendance problems.
  • Complete home/work visits as necessary, make appropriate school/community referrals, and monitor progress of students.
  • Coordinate with district and school staff, families, students, and legal staff on truancy issues. Plan and customize intervention strategies with school administration and/or court personnel for truant students.
  • Collect and report data on student achievement and attendance, especially as they relate to intervention strategies. Compile and submit evaluation reports as required.
  • Present truancy cases on behalf of the school district in Truancy Court.
  • Prepare and distribute court reports, including attendance, behavior and grades, and make recommendations for legal actions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: 

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree with a major pertinent to the position requirements: Criminal Justice, Social work, Education or Human Services Foundation.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in: Education, Criminal Justice, Human Service or related field
  • Communicate (read, write, and speak) in English.
  • Completed and submitted BVSD online application.

Preferred:

  • Masters with a major pertinent to the position requirements.
  • Experience working in diverse settings with high regard for cultural diversity.
  • Knowledge of and intermediate skills with Infinite Campus, Google docs, and Microsoft Office are key.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English

Salary Information:

Salary Range 1:$61,786.00 - $92,679.00

Salary Placement varies according to experience and education.

*Pay range listed above is for employees newly hired to BVSD or current BVSD employees that are new to the employee group (existing employees currently in this unit please refer to the pay range on the appropriate salary schedule).
