Summary:The Assistant Superintendent of Schools provides executive leadership and strategic direction for the district’s PK–12 schools and academic systems, aligned with the Superintendent’s vision and the goals of the Board of Education. This position oversees school leadership, academic initiatives, enrollment strategies, resource allocation, and operational coherence across schools and related departments to ensure high levels of student achievement, well-being, and equitable access to educational opportunities. The role supervises and supports Network Executive Directors, principals, and related academic leaders through instructional leadership development, strategic planning, implementation support, and continuous improvement efforts. As a member of the Executive Team and Superintendent’s Cabinet, the Assistant Superintendent collaborates with district leaders, Human Resources, and community partners to advance district priorities, strengthen organizational effectiveness, and foster strong school and community engagement.
Responsibilities:
- Provide executive vision, leadership, and direction for the school district. Ensure coherence across all academic and operational departments. Ensure the district is universally meeting the instructional, physical, and social/emotional needs of all students PK-12.
- Serve as the chief spokesperson for schools PK-12. Foster a highly transparent, effective, and welcoming district culture through active, high-level engagement with the community, media, civic leaders, staff, and parents. Problem-solving escalated, district-wide public relations matters.
- Recruit, hire, and onboard Principals, Executive Directors, and other direct reports in collaboration with Human Resources. Partner with Human Resources to support the district’s talent, retention, and succession planning efforts and help ensure highly effective leadership is placed across all academic levels
- Oversee the development, allocation, and management of the district’s overarching annual academic budget. Work collaboratively with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and the Superintendent to align financial, human, and capital resources with the district's strategic goals for academics. Ensure equitable funding across all academic communities and oversee systemic enrollment strategies.
- Build the leadership capacity of the school Executive Directors, 56 Elementary and Secondary principals, assistant principals, and the Student Support Directors; through consulting, coaching, and regular strategic meetings. Foster a culture of continuous professional growth, accountability, and high performance at the executive level.
- Collaborate and lead portions of the strategic plan; through planning, collaboration, and continuous evaluation. Monitor systemic data and district-wide metrics to ensure overarching goals are collaboratively pursued, implemented with fidelity, and reported transparently to the Superintendent and the public.
- Coordinate, communicate and represent BVSD with community resources that support schools by meeting with them, as needed, and responding proactively to assure ongoing successful relationships with local organizations, higher education institutions, and individual school communities.
- Coordinate and lead districtwide initiatives that impact schools and students by facilitating task forces, managing key projects, and aligning efforts across departments. Ensure coherence among initiatives and allocate appropriate resources to support implementation. Including leading the biannual academic calendar development and revising summer learning structures.
- Serve as a member of the Executive Team and the Superintendent’s Cabinet. Implement and support district-level initiatives such as budget, grant proposals, staffing, district goals, crisis response, etc. Support the implementation of the District's Vision, Mission and Goals as directed by the Superintendent and Board of Education. Attend all Board Meetings and work sessions, as requested.
- Provide leadership and supervision for assigned administrative and executive assistants to support efficient scheduling, correspondence, community inquiries, and daily executive operations. Supervise and evaluate direct reports, including Network Executive Directors, the Director of Student Support Services, and the Coordinator of Summer Learning.
- Engage in community and state organizations and committees, as a liaison or representative of BVSD or as a professional responsibility.

Qualifications:
Required:
- Master’s or Doctoral Degree plus additional coursework required for certification or licensure in a major pertinent to the position requirements.
- Minimum of three years of combined experience as a Principal Supervisor, and Principal of a school.
- Principal and Principal Supervisor experience
- Must currently hold a Principal license with CDE.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Completed and submitted BVSD online application.

Preferred:
- Doctorate degree.
- Experience with teaching and learning in an Elementary/Secondary setting.
- Knowledge of Superintendent vision, Strategic Plan, and Board Policy.
- Ability to make difficult decisions and hold others accountable.
Salary Information:
Salary Range 22: $156,585.00 - $234,881.00
Salary Placement varies according to experience and education.
*Pay range listed above is for employees newly hired to BVSD or current BVSD employees that are new to the employee group (existing employees currently in this unit please refer to the pay range on the appropriate salary schedule).
