    Responsibilities:
    The Native Language Tutor is responsible for assisting second language learners experiencing difficulty in learning and/or acculturation. Through a common cultural identity and the use of the native language, the Native Language Tutor provides access to the learning process through the development of cognitive, academic and linguistic skills which will ultimately transfer to learning processes in mainstream classrooms. Facilitate the acculturation process by serving as a link between the culture of the home and the culture of school; provide in-class direct instruction to individuals or small groups; collaborate and coordinate with teachers in lesson modification, assignment completion and classroom instruction; provide instruction in the native language to develop concepts; extend academic and/or conceptual levels; communicate regularly with classroom teachers and others about students' progress and assignments, and participate in conferences among parents, counselors, teachers and students as appropriate. Participate in bilingual team planning.

    Qualifications:
    Required:

    -High School Diploma
    -Complete and submitted BVSD online application
    -Communicate (read, write, and speak) in English, must pass English component of interview process
    -Bilingual/Biliterate English and Spanish (must pass BVSD assessment)

    Preferred:
    -Bachelors Degree
    -Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, school staff and administrators
    -Ability to demonstrate empathy for students' linguistic, cultural, educational and personal needs
    -Demonstrated experience and knowledge in bilingual instructional processes
    -Demonstrated mastery of skills and concepts in language arts, science, math and social studies
    -Multicultural background and experience
    -Teacher preparation program
