SWAP Specialist - Special Skills Aide II
1.00 FTE - 40 hrs/week - 230 days/year
Hourly Pay Range - $19.19 - $28.34

Responsible for assisting special education (mild/moderate) students/clients, between 15 and 24 years of age, with preparation, exploration and awareness training around employment, post-secondary education and self-advocacy. Assists clients with seeking and obtaining work-based learning experiences. Develops and promotes good community relations among various community stakeholders including education staff and employers.
-Develop jobs and conduct placement activities that result in career oriented jobs.
-Conduct interest inventories and evaluate job goals. Match job opportunities with qualified student applicant. Prepare students for application/interview process.
-May accompany students on interviews. Provide skills training/retention skills once student is employed. Assist students with exploring post-secondary education options. Provide instruction in self-advocacy.
-Develop Work Based Learning Experiences for students in the community such as volunteer opportunities, work experiences, and seasonal jobs.
-Provide job coaching and job retention skills to students/clients.
-Perform on-site observations and communicate with client’s supervisor on a regular basis regarding job performance/evaluation(s). Provide feedback to SWAP Coordinator, communicate with school administrators and case managers regarding various aspects of students’ work experiences.
-Collect data and maintain notes/reports accurately for tracking and recording clients progress in compliance with program guidelines. Responsible for case management to include referring clients to appropriate agencies or service providers and keeping case notes.
-Attend appropriate training, building meetings, school and community resource agency functions to help provide education regarding SWAP services.
-Acquire necessary documentation to aid in eligibility determination with Colorado Division of Vocational Rehabilitation.
-Assist in formal and informal vocational assessment prior to and on the job placement.
-Perform other duties as assigned
-High school diploma, completion of G.E.D, or equivalent.
-Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers and peripherals
-Operating knowledge of and experience with typical office equipment such as telephones, copier, fax machine, email.
-Valid Colorado Driver’s License
-Completed and submitted BVSD online application
-Minimum of 2 years experience in job development, public relations, working with young adults with disabilities, knowledge of agencies and community service for young adults with disabilities.
-Excellent interpersonal and individual communication skills, both oral and written or electronic, especially for those with special needs
-Good organizational skills, careful attention to details, flexibility, and willingness to learn
-Computer experience (Microsoft Office, Excel, etc.)
-Salary Placement varies according to experience and education.
