DIRECTOR OF TRANSPORTATION
SALARY: Range 11: $ 91,169 - $ 136,753 (based on 2019-20 salary schedule – based on experience)

Responsible for developing and maintaining a safe and efficient transportation program to meet all State, Federal and District safety compliance requirements. The transportation department provides services for regularly scheduled, extracurricular activities and special events. Coordinate transportation schedules and services with building administrators, and coordinate services with special needs personnel and parents. Develop and monitor assigned budgets. Responsible for all District support vehicle fleet services.
-Oversee daily student transportation and fleet maintenance operations.
-Supervise, set schedules, expectations and guidelines for transportation employees.
-Ensure annual evaluations are conducted.
-Counsel employees related to conduct or performance issues.
-Resolve and respond to grievances
-Develop and monitor transportation services for all bus routes that provide transportation for students.
-Schedule buses for district and non-district activities.
-Plan services for all bus routes and coordinate school times, boundaries, walk distances, services and costs.
-Coordinate and supervise scheduling methods for route development for regular and special education services.
-Develop, plan and monitor the transportation budget and administer the expenditures of funds as allocated.
-Prepare documents and reports as necessary to include budget cost savings scenarios.
-Assist to compile information for CDE 40 count.
-Accountable for set up of appropriate controls to approve expenditure for wages, operating expenses, equipment, vehicles, contracts, materials and supplies.
-Recommend assignments, promotions, transfers, and/or termination of all employees in the Transportation department.
-Develops new procedures as necessary to increase the safety and efficiency of the District-wide transportation services.
-Develops and maintains a safety program for the Transportation Department.
-Conducts periodic inspections of equipment and schedules necessary repairs in accordance with national and state guidelines.
-Identify areas needing additional training, redirection and support for employees to be successful.
-Cooperates with school administrators in the discipline of students while on school buses.
-Establish and maintain an effective public relations program for the achievement of customer service.
-Respond to customer inquiries, determine and implement action required.
-Provide a support system for parents and students to address concerns that arise from daily operations.
-Is responsible for the development and maintenance of an annual procedure manual which includes bus schedules and routes.
-Observe weather conditions and work collaboratively with the leadership team in the development of procedures and recommendations for school delays and/or closures during emergencies and/or adverse weather.
-Perform other duties as assigned.
-Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Transportation, Communications or other related area
-Four plus years of leadership experience
-Minimum of three years experience in Transportation
-Valid Driver's License
-Must possess a valid Colorado Commercial Driver's License with proper endorsements to drive a school but, or must obtain within 60 days of hire.
-Completed and submitted BVSD online application.
-Knowledge of state and federal laws regarding CDE/DOT/CDL/Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards and Individuals with Disabilities Education Act regulations, drug testing, driver qualifications and vehicle inspections.
-Requires independent thinking, judgment, consistency, conflict management and interpretation of facts prior to making a decision.
-Personal Computer and Office software (Google, Excel, Word, Access, etc.) knowledge
-Operating knowledge of automated routing software
-Operating knowledge of school transportation vehicles
